SCHUTZHUND OBEDIENCE FOUNDATION TRAINING

June 11th, 2009 · No Comments

Izzy, a VA Ingodds Albert daughter, was picked up for training May 30, 2009.  Izzy is a high energy, high drive pup.  I first just let the pup settle in and get used to her surroundings.  Izzy acted as if she lived here all along, which is always great to see in a pup.  I always start my pups downstairs in our home, and live there with them for two reasons:

1.  We are at ground level making it easier to potty train.

2.  I am able to keep the pups seperate from my personal dogs living in the home until I am ready for the pup to meet the pack.  This also helps the pup to focus on me only, for training.

Izzy did great settling in, so I started with her training on Sunday.  She was quick to learn but over active, so my thoughts have been in what way can I settle her down to train.  After 2 full days of training, I did a video clip of her which I will post, but I am taking Izzy to training today, so she will be out and about in the big world socializing, and meeting a schutzhund helper for the first time.  I hope to add video of that to the training at home for Izzy’s first week of training.

At the end of our first week of OB training, Izzy understands verbal commands come and sit.  She understands hand signals of come, sit, down, swing (a flip finish coming into heel position) and is working on roll over and sitting up.

Izzy has a natural retrieve, she brings a ball right back to you, so we want to keep that going for sure, by making her want to keep bringing things back to me.  I am praising her and play with her to keep that going.
